Horimiya was one of my favorite animes in recent years, and I'm very excited for the new season thats coming out.

But for anyone who hasn't checked it out yet, the second season is titled, "The Missing Pieces." Becuase the manga ends in the same place season 1 did. Season two will just be some of the stories and bits that were left out from Season 1 to fit everything in a 13 episode anime. Obviously Horimiya was popular enough the studio knew people would want more, even in this awkward manner.

For anyone who was aware of all that...any idea where the new episodes slot in? Was that announced anywhere? I'd like to rewatch the whole thing and just bounce back and forth as the new episodes release.

Looking forward to this given I’m quite the Mari Okada fan.

This is easily one of the best animated movies I've ever seen. Period.

And honestly, it might be the saddest. I watched the original Japanese dub with subtitles. And I feel like I made the better choice. Though usually I'm not a dub vs sub purist. But I think the movie does a good job showing the devastation that can come from war. Especially the innocent people that get hurt in the process. And watching this brother and sister trying to survive the only way they know how is just so touching. But also so unbelievably sad.

I think it's beautifully animated. Especially for the time.

If you haven't seen it. It is definitely among the very best of Studio Ghibli's works. I would even recommend it to non-anime fans. But make sure to bring some tissues.

Always up for romcoms using this trope.

I'm thinking about hosting some kind of event to help drive participation in the community.

Some ideas we could do:

  • Weekly anime rewatch
    • A classic staple in anime communities, everyone gets together and agrees on a show to watch weekly, and we have a thread discussing it. This is the most likely candidate as of now because of its simplicity and wide audience reach.
  • Beehaw Sings?
    • Probably not this one, but I always have fun with these. I doubt the community is big enough to sustain this currently.
  • Art collaboration of some kind?
    • Also probably not, but if the majority of our userbase just coincidentally happens to be artists this would be fun. Slightly more plausible than Beehaw Sings because there are many mediums of art.

If you are interested in participating in some kind of event, please comment! This is also doubling as a "are people actually interested in this" post.

If you have any ideas for more types of events we could do, please share them! I'll add the ones I could feasibly run to the list.

I enjoy a bit of anime, but I don't follow all the news and shows - I just pick up stuff by recommendations or a bit of searching.

So, people who actually know what they're talking about - are any of these actually good? Are any so bad they're worth completely avoiding? Any of them have particularly off-putting / offensive "fan service"?

Teppen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,
Akudama Drive,
Black Lagoon,
Akatsuki no Yona,
Chikyuu Shoujo Arjuna,
Appleseed

What was your first anime? When did you started to watch it? How did you become aware of its existence?

Was it the anime that made you an anime fan? (If you consider yourself as such)

How does it rank for you? Would you say you still like it? Would you consider it one of you favourite anime series?

You get settled in, enjoy whats shaping up to be a great series, look forward to seeing what happens with the characters once they're introduced ... aaand the writing trips over it's own feet and faceplants into the ground like so many defeated enemies.
What's the worst one out there, and what happened to it?

Hi ! Since this community is brand new, let's get it started with the classic recommendations thread :-)

I haven't read mangas in a while, and my favorite were (in no particular order)

  • Kenshin
  • Hunter X Hunter
  • GTO

I also liked one piece, but got out a few years ago and now catching up seems like quite a bit of work, and the start of Naruto before stuff got too weird.

Do you have good mangas to recommend for me ?

Thanks a lot :-)

Manhwa/manhua? (beehaw.org)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by TheGiantKorean@beehaw.org to c/animeandmanga@beehaw.org

Anyone here reading any? Are manhwa/manhua discussions welcomed here?

Edit: Currently reading Overgeared, The Breaker: Eternal Force, Dungeon Reset, Reality Quest, Ranker Who Lives a Second Time, and Tales of Demons and Gods. I'm trying to get back into Skeleton Soldier Couldn't Protect the Dungeon, and Tower of God, but they haven't been holding my interest as much lately.

What are your favorites in the genre?

My own current favorites are Run with the Wind and Aoashi. Would love to discover more like that.

Having moved off of reddit mostly I'm finding it hard to keep tabs on what seasonal shows are worth the effort, what shows are y'all planning on watching/most looking forward to? The stuff I'm excited for this year (with the exception of JJK and Mushoku Tensei) all come out later this year so I'm kind of in a holding pattern right now, would love some direction :)

It's not much now, but we've built it. So it's a requirement that they now come.
