One Monero

TLDR: Monero can be difficult to fully understand, but so was cash before you learned how to use it...

Getmonero.org LocalMonero (We know) Monero.com Hardware Wallets Light Wallets Blockheights Seed phrases Mining Pools/Solo/P2P Monerujo Cake MyMonero Feather Double-spends Confirmations/times Tx Fees Nodes - Local, remote, onion/tor Monero.town r/Monero CEX vs DEX Swaps News and media coverage Monero Events Newsletters Guides The list goes on and on...

I feel as if it is time that the community comes together, in whatever medium necessary, to create ONE, UNIFIED, authoritative resource location for all things Monero.

There's too many fragmented communities, forums, too many websites with bad or even dangerous information, fake miners, schemes, well you get the point.

I'm not saying any of the legit resources should go away, but there needs to be one repository for all the information and links that we as community members can all point a new user to, where they can learn everything there is to know all in one place.

onemonero.com (Because 1 XMR always equals 1 XMR)

Should include: Wallets - how they work, which ones are legitimate, differences and use cases. Hardware vs software, local vs web.

Mining - how to's, software links with explanations, hashrate calc, benchmark sites (and expectation of reality)

Transacting - Buying, selling, sending, receiving, how outputs combine, what are ring signatures, etc.

Community Links: to any legit communities (Reddit, Lemmy, Matrix, IRC, and wherever someone can ask for legitimate help.

We aren't doing ourselves any favors by staying in our own little corners.

Oh, you want to get into XMR? Thirty people will tell you 90 different ways to get from A to B.

Oh, hey, there's some Monero dudes on IRC, how do I get there?

Q: Which wallet should I use?

A: Depends on your use case, mobile, desktop, hardware, app, web, etc

How do I restore a wallet?

We see all these questions every week, and the answers are usually quite similar.

If everyone in MoneroLand was aware of, and trusted one site that had as much information as could be collected, verified, and audited, we could all point to that place.

I trust the comments will include links to popular Monero information sites. I always point folks to getmonero, but there are other places out there.

Who runs the site?

Ideally it would be those who are already recognized as XMR contributors, not paid YouTubers. Invite the wallet devs/owners, invite community mods (not just Rddt), invite the web designers. We don't have to dox them, but they should be recognizable in their respective communities.

Where should it be hosted?

This part I don't know enough about to make a recommendation. I'd assume there should be clearnet, onion, and definitely mirrors of some kind. Redundancy built in so if one server goes down, shut down, etc the info is still accessible.

With the global pushback against Monero, and the worsening of legitimate search sites being poisoned by inaccurate AI results and sponsored links (ads), finding good information and help will become even harder.

It kills me every time someone posts about how they lost all their funds because "I clicked on this Google search result which turned out to be a scam wallet" or something similar.

Imagine how much XMR knowledge disappears if Reddit were to shut down.

We can, and should, do better.

The RandomX configuration document describes what values are used for the default implementation. It also specifies various safety limits.

There have been various RandomX variations implemented in other coins, for example, RandomARQ/RandomWOW, RandomXL, etc. that presumably are within the safety limits.

Now, my question is, why not use low hardware requirement within the safety limits for RandomX in Monero?

My arguments for lowering hardware requirement:

  • Processors with less L2/L3 cache has lots of processing power sitting idle. For example, Ryzen 5700G (8C/16T) deploys only 8 mining threads (less L3 cache) whereas 5700X (8C/16T) deploys 16 mining threads (both drawing almost similar power but the latter gaining more hashrate).
  • This applies more to Intel processors as they come with relatively less cache.
  • It also alienates laptop miners. During my time lurking in r/MoneroMining subreddit, there seems to be enough people trying to mine using laptops.
    • Using xmrig-mo, on rx/xeq, my laptop (Intel Core i5-2520M) gets 3110 H/s and my 5700X gets around 41000 H/s. The ratio is about 13.2x.
    • On rx/0, my laptop gets around 620 H/s and my 5700X gets around 8800 H/s. The ratio is about 14.2x.

With less hardware requirement, both small and big processors will get 100% utilization of their processing powers. Smaller mines will gain a slightly more percentage of total network hashrate.

Some info to potentially consider:

Just finished setting it up and after downloading the XMR, BTC, and LTC chains I see 1 available bid, a swap between XMR and PART....

Is bisq/(now haveno?) the only semi-reliable way to swap XMR for other cryptos/fiat? I'm guessing cross-chain atomic swaps are severely under-adopted/under-utilized?

Hello everyone, after quite some time I'm more both happy and anxious to share the first publicly available version of the Monero Garden at monero.garden

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, it's an education project of mine that got funded with the CCS. It has three milestones, the text, the illustrations, and the website. The first complete version of the texts is ready, the website is also live (but we'll keep iterating to improve the UX) and after MoneroKon I'll start working on the illustrations.

It's hosted on GitHub so anyone can suggest changes, or give feedback. There's also a public matrix room if you prefer. All opinions are welcomed! Please if you find any errors or think one particular chapter is confusing tell me so I can make this resource better. Thanks!

Mining pool PSA:

Since the dramatic decrease in hashrate\1]) on 29/05/24 from ~2.8 GH/s to ~1.8 GH/s as of 01/06/24. This has shaken up the pool distribution\2]); as a result, nanopool now holds ~576 MH/s (30% of the total 1.8 GH/s.)This isn’t a five-alarm fire, but it is mildly concerning. This can potentially repeat the MineXMR 51% scare of 2022[3].

If any of you fine folks would consider mining on a decentralised pool such as p2ool\4]), now is the time.

Ps,

I am in no way affiliated with p2ool. Happy mining.

Monero tips on Nostr (old.reddit.com)

Let’s face it, our way of life is under attack. The exchanges delist us. Dubai bans us. EU restricts. Others countries we wonder. Nostr Bitcoin Maxis try to haze us. Ethereum VC funded devs treat us like pariahs. Even if you want to act tough and curse me out, you know it’s true that we live in some level of fear.

a) To make Monero real world money, you need adoption from everyday people. b) Everyday people don’t care about learning new tech, they learn it from influencers. c) To win over influencers, we need to appeal to what they care about, which is not privacy. They care about censorship, being deplatformed, and being demonetized.

Russell Brand demonetized. Glenn Beck pulled from Apple podcasts. America’s front line doctors banned from how many platforms? These are just some well-known examples, but I know dozens of mid-level political guys rug pulled by Big Tech. If we shift the conversation away from Monero is darknet markets, and turn it to undeniably monetized free speech: This is a winning battle.

But there’s a lot of choices with censorship resistance. Nostr, Session, Ethereum push channels, Farcaster, Lens, Arweave, IPFS, SimpleX, and the list goes on. The problem with “encryption as identity” is people do not agree on what coins or keys are legitimate. And this fighting and fragmentation kills adoption.

Here’s how we solve it: Simplified Privacy w/ DegenRocket has created a cross-key cryptographically agnostic protocol. This means ANYONE can cross-communicate. Our demo example has Nostr and Ethereum talking to each other… with Monero tips.

This reduces the number of clients and apps people have to download. When you SIGN you’re sending XMR, you first publicly telegraph you’re doing so with Nostr or Eth. This separates your SOCIAL identity (Nostr/Eth), from your FINANCIAL identity (XMR) in the eyes of Chainalysis AI.

Here’s the plan:

Step 1. You. It takes only 3 minutes to generate a random keypair and see how it works. Post your stuff, have fun. If you are “too busy”, then that’s the response influencers are going to have to making a Monero wallet. You can not control politicians. All you can control is your own actions.

Step 2. Me. I pledge to reach out to 356 influencers over the next year, and pitch them on the undeniable value of ownership and self-custody of their communication and revenue stream, as opposed to being a slave of Big Tech. That if they adopt an interoperability protocol, you get the ears of ALL these keys, starting with the adoption from you.

Step 3. Us. When they come on the protocol regardless of Nostr or Eth keys, we hit them with $0 zap Monero emojis. Nothing motivates someone to generate a wallet, like being able to count how much they are missing out.

Monero is true free speech. It’s about time we turned up the volume.

Here’s the info:

I just noticed that Monero network hash rate has dipped. Based on the current price, it was comfortably sitting around 2.8 GH/s. At the time of writing, it's around 1.8 GH/s.

Now, I go to check and it seems like there's a significant hash rate (about 50%) dip on top pools like Nanopool, SupportXMR, and HashVault. From the history chart on MiningPoolStats, this dip isn't the usual fluctuation.

My first assumption was, probably the "botnet" was taken down somehow. This story on BleepingComputer also kinda coincides with this hashrate dip.

Coincidence? Most likely. However, I'd love to hear if anyone has more insight in this matter.

Hi everyone,

Tommy from AllArk here. Recently we have been seeing a significant uptick in people across the US, UK and Europe using our service to exchange XMR for Cash in the Mail.

To address the most common questions, we prepared a short overview of this super easy and convenient process. 🙂

Receiving cash in the mail can offer several unique benefits, particularly for those who prioritize convenience, privacy, and accessibility. Here are some key advantages:

  1. Convenience: Direct Access: Cash-in-mail eliminates the need for visiting banks or ATMs, which can be a time-consuming process. Remote Transactions: It allows you to receive payments even if you're residing in remote or rural locations where banking facilities might be scarce.
  2. Privacy: Anonymity: Cash transactions are more private compared to digital transactions, ensuring your financial dealings are kept confidential. Limited Digital Footprint: Unlike bank transfers or online payments, receiving cash leaves no electronic trail, providing enhanced privacy for your financial activities.
  3. Immediate Liquidity: Instant Use: Once you receive the cash, it can be used immediately without any waiting period typically associated with bank clearances. Avoiding Fees: There are no transaction fees when using cash, unlike certain digital payment methods that may include hidden or processing fees.
  4. Inclusivity: For the Unbanked: This method serves those without access to banking services. Around the world, many people operate without traditional bank accounts and rely on cash for everyday transactions. Ease for Elderly or Technologically Challenged: Cash mail transactions can be easier for those who may not be comfortable navigating online banking or digital financial services.
  5. Emergency Preparedness: Reliable in Crises: In scenarios where digital infrastructures fail due to power outages, technical issues, or cyberattacks, physical cash remains a reliable medium of exchange.
  6. Gift Giving: Personal Touch: Sending cash as a gift through the mail adds a personal touch, allowing the recipient to use it as they see fit.

While receiving cash in the mail has numerous benefits, we ensure secure and discreet packaging and use reliable postal services to minimize risks of loss or theft.

As always, we are always available on Session Messenger to answer any questions and hope this helps the Monero community! 🙂

Regards Tommy From AllArk

Businesses that use the MECP graphic:

  1. Pledge to only use the profits of their Monero sales to purchase other products or services with Monero.
  2. Pledge not to use exchanges to convert their Monero into a fiat currency.
  3. Pledge to seek out and transact with other MCEP businesses where possible.

I'm currently creating a list of businesses that want to join this pledge. You can apply here:
