So I've been in Monero for the past 3 years and learned about the GUI wallet since last year and decided to downlad the software.

Recently, i was supposed to download the newest update of the GUI wallet although my computer announced that there was a virus and after multiple attempts, I decided to uninstall it completely after finding out that there was a network attack of sorts.

So here are my questions:

1 what is the attack all about and what will happen to Monero

2 is it safe to reinstall the app or should i wait until this blows over

3 once reinstalled, would i only have to enter my seed phrase to recover my funds (This is my first time experiencing this sort of issue:/)

I just noticed that one of my most used coins (Algorand including USDC/USDT) were added as payment options on Travala, but Monero seems to have disappeared. Travala supported Monero payments since 2019.. almost 5 years. I couldn't find an announcement for the removal.. does anyone know why Monero was removed? And if it'll be back?

I don't care about CEX-delistings (they're actually a good thing IMO), but it's sad to see legit businesses removing the only payment option with true digital cash, leaving only surveillance coins that offer less privacy than PayPal...

Update: it does not seem to currently be working :(

Update2: kinda working offers show up but cant be accepted because arbitrator signature invalid

Update3: The first trade is being completed

update4: first trade completed

The easiest way to get going is with the pre-build installers found when scrolling down on this page.

Alternatively you can clone the repo here.

Reto has a total trade fee of 0.6% (0.1% taker, 0.5% maker) which goes to arbitrators in it’s entirety, there is no direct network fee.

Join the Reto SimpleX Group to stay up-to-date!

Note:

If you previously installed Haveno, first clear your Haveno app directory to reset things, located at:

-macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Haveno/

-Windows: ~\AppData\Roaming\Haveno\The easiest way to get going is with the pre-build installers found when scrolling down on this page.

Haveno situation (old.reddit.com)

Hello everyone,

Localmonero turns off new trades tomorrow 5/14 around 18:00 utc I believe

Haveno mainnet documentation is released but there is still a lot to do. This is what woodser said "a skilled team could set up a decentralized vps deployment in a few days. trustworthy is another matter" There is a lot of discussion going on matrix. One of the possible issues is that haveno mainnet is going to be ddosed so even after it is set up, how well it runs is another question.

update: (haveno is running at least 0.4.8.8 tor with PoW ddos protection) which is good actually )

This is how I see things going.

Step 1. Multiple fragmented networks releasing their own executables for their networks.

Step 2. Popular networks are added directly into the source code and a network choosing dialog might be added.

Step 3. The base software supports obtaining data from multiple networks at the same time.

Step 4. The base software removes the choosing dialog and just lists all trade listings from all networks at once.

UPDATE: One of the groups is going to publish their build tomorrow so it should be working

From Woodser:

so now the answer to the question "wen mainnet?" is: as soon as someone runs a reputable network. arbitrators collect the trade fees by default, and this can be configured when deploying the network

Time to get Mainnet up and running!

Aside: the council is dissolved. Those creating a Mainnet instance should configure who the arbitrators will be.

Hi everybody, a few months ago, I presented my project for helping the crypto community in general (Link). And made a small "penetration test" (Link).

In the meantime, I got a commend from r/simbadMarino, to join a hackathon with it. I want to thank him a lot for remembering me after that and giving me the heads up to join one.

Here is the gist of my project. It's a fully open-sourced tool in the form of a website that generates a cryptocurrency wallets in a deterministic way, from a file and an optional but recommended password. What it tries to solve is the problem of long-time storage; there is no need to store your generated seed in a secure place when you can regenerate it again in the same way. You just need to store the precursor, the file and password used. (I wish I used this description at the Hackathon, but ADHD and last second push...)

And another advantage to this is that the file to anyone else is completely normal; the process of generating a wallet doesn't change the file at all, so it's impossible to tell if the file was used in generating a wallet or not. Not only that, but every combination of a wallet and password possible gives a valid wallet that may or may not have anything inside, so you need to check the blockchain for that.

Hi

I just wanted to spread some information with the closure of localmonero the community has been struggling with what to do. I believe telegram groups ran by reputable vendors will take over the trading scene for a while. I created the sub so people can connect, network, and have alternatives. IT IS NOT INTENDETED TO BE AN ESCROW SERVICE. just provide a place for community to share there opinions on traders and things like that.

There is one group chat with a vendor list of vendors from localmonero called Alex community(different alex). The list I have is from there chat, the telegram usernames match the description they have on localmonero.

r/XMRp2p

Sorry I don't intend to spam I just wanted to make one post

Thank you

it's too bad xmr isn't the default vehicle for donations to controversial causes

e.g., paying for travel for abortions in red states shouldn't put a target on one's back. by creating a convenient amazon-like "one click xmr donate" widget, the community can protect financial contributors from political pressure.

just spitballing ways to use controversy to integrate into the economy

Crypto = Concealed; secret.

Currency = Medium of exchange.

It doesn't get anymore simpler than this.

"If you reduced a dog's chain one link at a time, every few days, until his chain is so short he won't be able to move, he will never resist because he is conditioned to the loss of his freedom slowly, over time.

That's what's happening to you."

Hey everyone,

After almost 7 years of operation, due to a combination of internal and external factors, we have made the difficult decision to close our platform.

We're extremely thankful for the love and support we've received over the years. We couldn't have done it without you. We love you all ♥

LocalMonero has been around for most of Monero's life. Fortunately, the Monero ecosystem has matured a lot over these years, and with the imminent launch of Haveno and other DEXs like Serai, atomic swaps, the coming addition of FCMP (full blockchain anonymity set replacing rings of 16) as well as the continuing and rapidly accelerating development of the Monero protocol, we're confident that Monero's future is bright, with or without our platform.

The winding-down process begins today, and finishes 6 months from now. Our support staff will be available for help throughout this period.

  1. Effective immediately, all new signups and ad postings are disabled;
  2. One week from now, on May 14th, 2024, new trades will be disabled as well;
  3. 6 months from now, on November 7th, 2024, the website will be taken down. Please reclaim any funds from your arbitration bond wallet prior to that date, otherwise the funds may be considered abandoned/forfeited.

Can I still register / post an ad?

No, registrations and ad postings are disabled, effective immediately.

Can I still trade if I have an account?

You will be able to trade until May 14th, after which new trades will be disabled.

How long do I have to access my account and reclaim any funds?

Until November 7th, 2024. After that, the funds may be considered abandoned/forfeited.

I have trades/disputes open, what do I do?

All trades have to be finalized or cancelled prior to 2024-11-07. We will continue to arbitrate and mediate any remaining disputes up to that date.

Can I delete my user data?

Yes, on the website, just login and open your account settings, in the "Personal" tab you'll see the "DELETE ACCOUNT" button at the bottom. This function isn't implemented in the mobile app, so you'll need to use a mobile browser to login and delete your account from a mobile device.

I have another question that's not covered here, how do I get assistance?

Our support will be available up until the closure on 2024-11-07. If you need any sort of help, please feel free to reach us through our usual support channels.

Is there any way I can express my gratitude for the service / donate?

We won't be taking any donations. Consider donating to a CCS initiative instead. However, if our platform served you well throughout the years, we would be grateful if you left a review on TrustPilot (leave a review for LocalMonero / leave a review for AgoraDesk). Your positive reviews will be cherished by our team ♥

That's it for this announcement. It's been a pleasure and a privilege helping the community.

With our eternal love, The LocalMonero / AgoraDesk Team

I've recently started hosting a node on my PC as I have a large SSD and unlimited data usage. I have done it before in the past but I didn't get round to it after changing PC in January.

I was thinking a slight "gamification" of running a node might encourage myself and others to run one. Something like a "health bar" congratulating users for being successfully connected to other nodes (or showing red when none are connected), and some sort of indicator of how much data one has successfully shared with other nodes.

If others think this is a good idea, how could I suggest it to the devs?

Can anyone think of any improvements to this idea?
