It has long been said that if all the furries and catgirls disappeared it would cause the internet to collapse overnight.

[-] Today@lemmy.world 20 points 3 weeks ago

What's a catgirl? Is there a signup for that?

[-] lychee@lemmy.blahaj.zone 28 points 3 weeks ago

Next they'll go after the furries and take all the navy's data centers offline

[-] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 3 weeks ago

Pfft, that shits been contracted out for years (honestly understandable, hard to have consistent network defense with a constantly rotating (deploying) workforce of active duty military)

[-] HexadecimalSky@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago

Lots of IT still in the military also some of the "contract out" is done by reservist and is tied to their military contract. Those still in military are your tier 3 IT and admin.

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

They don't exactly deploy cyber security soldiers to do combat patrols. They're doing the same job whether they're in D.C. or Berlin.

[-] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

It's like half and half. Some is contracted out, but there are definitely active duty service members doing cyber security work as well.
