Are we there yet!?! (lemmy.world)

I've registered for the app already. Every day I check Google Play for available app updates. I'll see a notification that there are several apps with updates available... but it's never Boost... such disappointment every time. Haha!

In all honesty, I can't wait for the app to come out. Take your time, do it right. And don't do what Sync did... I'll just leave it at that.

I think Sync definitely did it right, I'm using it right now. Their pricing model is whack though, and I'm eagerly waiting to come back home to Boost.

Sync's pricing ist outrageous.

[-] mojo@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

Yes it is, that's like the number one feedback lol

[-] hogart@feddit.nu 2 points 1 year ago

Not only the number one, but the only one. App works flawless. Is a beauty and... Yeah.. monetization is fucked

[-] stebo02@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

I wouldn't call it flawless, I liked the app but some features are quite iffy

[-] sour@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago

How should sync do it in your opinion?

117 dollars for lifetime Ultra is wrong. Just saying. That's 15 Big Macs to remove ads and letting me cloud storage my settings.

How can that be a good purchase in anyone's book?

Edit: Sorry didn't anwer your question. I would set lifetime of Ultra at around 35-40 usd. And ad removal at 15 usd. I would also add a donate button for the people that wants to donate, since a lot of the Lifetime Ultra purchasers claim they bought to support the dev and nothing else. Let them do that how much they want.

Other free apps are closing in. And the free version of Sync is still the best app. I love Sync. But I won't paying harmful prices.

That's 15 Big Macs

another example where Americans will use anything but metric... /lh

If I knew Boost was coming out, I'd probably cave and get the $20 buy once. But right now I just bought the $2/mo since it'll probably be ready before then I'm hoping.

[-] hogart@feddit.nu 3 points 1 year ago

Good choice. I'm using free atm. Ads aren't even correctly implemented for me. Just gray boxes.

[-] UlrikHD@programming.dev 2 points 1 year ago

I remember there being just a small one time fee to get rid of ads on boost. Hopefully it will be the same this time around. The solution sync came up with just looks ridiculous in context of lemmy and all the apps for it.

The main feature I'm hoping for is a way to block instances and keywords, but those should ideally come from the lemmy backend itself.

[-] drmoose@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

20usd one payment is very fair. I'd pay more for Boost, if it works well and promises proper support I think Boost is worth 60usd which is what a new video game costs.

People are being a bit scroogey on lemmy tbh.

[-] Ilgaz@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

They can charge anything of course, it is a free market. It would be nice of them to spare $3 for each purchase as a donation to users current server. A checkbox perhaps?

[-] PurpleTentacle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah. Sync works well, I'm using it right now. But it was always my second favorite Reddit client after Boost and that pricing is just ridiculous.

I have bought the "Pro" version of just about every single Reddit client, but 22€ to remove ads that aren't even working on my device is just ridiculous. And all the interesting features are paywalled behind the Ultra subscription anyway.

Can't wait for Boost.

In my country it's 117 dollars for lifetime Ultimate. 117 dollars. I don't even know what the most expensive app I've ve bought cost me. Maybe 8 or 9? Was prob a game for my son. Probably one he spent 15 minutes playing. To somehow end up making it feel like a worse purchase than that is a pretty good achievement.

[-] Yoruio@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago

only 22€? I'm checking in at $134.99 CAD. for reference, Baldur's Gate 3 costs $89.99.

[-] PurpleTentacle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

22€ is the "remove the ads I'm blocking anyway" price, no extra features. That's the one I usually always pay, for every app with a one-time-purchase ad-removal option. Because I really hate ads, don't like to have adware on my phone and I don't like not paying anything since my adblockers are really effective.

The "Ultra-Lifetime-Option" is 110€, which comes to $162 CAD or two Baldur's Gates or two Unraid OS lifetime licenses.

[-] Yoruio@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 year ago

wow you must have some expensive big macs

[-] PurpleTentacle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

4.99 without a coupon, but there's always a coupon. Last time I had one I paid one Euro.

So this license is 22 Big Macs, or 110 Big Macs with coupons.
