If brother does actually fall off the cliff, (and I'm not convinced it has yet)I probably would just buy any used Enterprise level MFP. Like the HP DN class. The engines are solid, they're designed to be maintainable, their page counter per month is so huge they're well overbuilt for home use.
HP is a pretty shitty company but they're careful not to alienate their enterprise customers.
You're going to pay a fortune to put toner in it but that toner will last forever.
