Lmao the autopen issue is just that Biden used an electronic signature, so now the pardons are invalidated? Guess I don't own my house then, I'm not an organ donor, my student loans should be invalidated, my medical procedures were never authorized, etc...

Republicans canceling student loans would almost be cool but they'd probably find a way to destroy universities in the process if they could

[-] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 7 points 11 months ago

Probably wouldn't do that, capitalists are heavily invested in Student Loan Asset-Backed Securities (SLABS), basically the same as '08's famous Mortgage Backed Securities but backed by student loans instead of mortgages. Whatever they would do in regards to student loans would be much more malicious against those who owe them

[-] Mic_Check_One_Two@reddthat.com 3 points 11 months ago

Yeah, the only thing banks learned from the ‘08 bubble was that they shouldn’t back securities with debts that can be disbursed via bankruptcy. Since student loans can’t be disbursed, they’re the gold standard for securities, and are a big reason why so many rich people are against student loan forgiveness.

They'd make the universities pay the student loans.

[-] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

That would indeed destroy them in the process.

They sell the education, the loan is their payment. If the loan was rescinded out of the schools pockets it would instantly go bankrupt for offering services for negative income.

I think the universe would implode due to that specific action creating a paradox.

I mean, Republicans were the ones that cancelled free/cheap higher education.

Under US law, the president has the expressed authority to direct a subordinate to attach the presidential signature in an official capacity without the president present while granting that individual no more authorities.

For the regular citizens, you have to be present or assign a lawful representative with legal authorities. So you couldn't tell your secretary to attach your electronic signature to your mortgage loan papers unless she had power of attorney or was acting as your guardian. You can click a button to attach your electronic signature and send the document to whomever.

So Biden was fine to sign without being present. I think their argument is that he was not capable of knowingly doing what he did due to mental condition. So they would have to prove he was unfit and determine when he crossed that line for whatever they are claiming to be valid and vacation possible.

they would have to prove he was unfit

In this looney toons timeline? Most likely trump will just declare it is so and everyone goes along with it

[-] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

I honestly don't think it would be that hard to prove he was mentally compromised with a few subpoenas, or at least cast enough doubt. There was the staffers that talked about their wrangling efforts at the start of his term.

You are right though, Trump will do whatever and then the courts will glaciate their way through unfucking things.
