I feel like a version of this guide gets reposted weekly, but it's always out of date.

u/theFallenWalnut over on that other site updates these regularly.

They also now link to !purchasewithpurpose@lemmy.world but I don't see anything posted there. Maybe a better place to start reposting these

I've heard of Ente, it's made in the US, but you can self-host it and it's encrypted

Thank you. To be honest I don't have time for self hosting, I'd prefer a commercial service. Ideally a service that offers mail, calendar and some kind of remote drive too.

I'm just using Nextcloud's Memories app. I prefer to keep my photo backups in the same place as everything else in my cloud storage anyway, so it works nicely

Seconded. Its a great experience, my only complains is that photo synchronization with my phone isn't stellar. Best solution I've found thus far is a proprietary app called FolderSync
