TBH, a literature nonprofit that embraced AI probably did it because they were already having trouble staying afloat. "Let's fire a bunch of writers and replace them with ChatGPT" is not something successful organizations tend to do.
It's also not what happened. This case is sad enough as it is. No need to make things up about it.
