Maybe they have a second hat for "not work" aka partying.
Many do, same for boots. Though the non work hat is likely older and worn in.
Oh that's interesting, so they save the best hat for work.... I would assume the opposite except safety things.
No it’s more the fun hat does not need to be replaced, so it gets worn in more. It could also be sentimental like your first cowboy hat or your fathers hat.
I've also seen some hats that were very expensive because they were made out of fancy materials or by a proper craftsman.
Think about sneakers vs dress shoes.
