Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

ummm, something doesn't compute
From the end of the article
Either extremely impressionable, or maybe had his account handed over after he was pulled off the street and conscripted into a ruzzian meat wave.
Either way, tragic waste of human life, being anywhere near involvement with their military.
Some people consider Ukraine to be a neonazi stronghold. So fighting Ukraine would be fighting against fascist nazis. That logic is prevalent with conspiracy nuts/scammers like Alex Jones.
Also very prevalent with tankies.
Tankies don't have their own beliefs. They're just mouthpieces for the Russian and Chinese government.
The way these "theories" are thrown around these days with such an air of legitimacy is truly terrifying.
This absolute miracle of communication at our fingertips, and it's 99% noise, dangerous noise, vying to worm its way into whatever cracks in the human psyche it can find. At the least harmful, it's persuading ads. And on the other end, people are flying out to go join ISIS or Ruzzia because they got algorithmed into a Facebook group or absorbed enough TikTok radiation.
I miss when the internet "wasn't real life."
It seems they convinced him that NATO and Ukraine are Nazis. Typical stuff from the play book. Dude just went all in on it. Pretty sad, he had his whole life ahead of him.
Who'd guess the cia deputy director would raise such a gullible piece of shit
Even if that were true, what does that have to do with Ukraine?
But of course! Those poor Russians just had to do a whole invasion, entirely out of self defense!
NATO does not expand (invade to grab land), it is based on voluntary membership application (although it is not truly volunteer since they are being forced, antagonized to join due to russia expansionism). New members are only accepted through vote. "NATO expansion" is well known as putin/FSB propaganda meant for a certain naive audience.
NATO borders with russia are the most peaceful with the low number of russian troops. Internally, Russia is not concerned about NATO, a defense alliance since Russia has the highest number of nukes.
In the media, they will use NATO expansion propaganda because there are naive clowns and useful idiots who will believe in NATO expansion propaganda. Do remember russia was fine with Ukriane joining NATO, they saw they can use it as propaganda to justify russia expansionism. http://www.en.kremlin.ru/events/president/transcripts/21598.
Ukraine public support for joining NATO was in the minority before the war, and only after invasion it became majority. Even after Ukraine said they won't apply to NATO, russia didn't not stop its expansion because russia expansion has nothing to do with NATO.
In fact due to russia aggressive expansion even more countries applied to join NATO. Putin knew that russia expansion will encourage more to submit application to join NATO. Putin was warned to stop russia expansion as that just cause more to apply for NATO membership, it is open to anyone. Furthermore note that expanding russia territories just bring russia closer to NATO, increasing russia border with NATO. Clearly it is not about NATO.
Even, without using NATO, putin will come up with a new reason like nazis, terrorists or LGBTQ or WMDs or security issues ( a country with the most nukes in the world has a security issue? only naive clowns will believe that) or restoring empire/imperialism (which he admitted in interview with carlson) or all of the above each for a different audience. Whatever it takes to get crimea and its warm water ports, and later Donbas for a land bridge and to secure Crimea water supply. Eventually going all the way to Transnistria.
You think things are so simple as poor top nuclear powered russia who is scared of evil tiny Ukraine, for suggesting sending in membership application form to NATO. You are being naive at best. War does not work like a superhero movie.
NATO was created to protect small countries from russia expansionism and stop russia from antagonizing its neighbours.
Russia was even member of G8 until russia antagonized G8 members by invasion of Crimea. The only way a massive nuclear powered russia sees NATO as a "threat" is that NATO prevents russia from expansionism from expanding russia territories.
Ukraine is the country being invaded. Russia is the one invading. That is as simple as it is. You invade = you are the aggressor = you are the evil one.
