Paper in Nature Climate Change journal reveals major role wealthy emitters play in driving climate extremes

The world’s wealthiest 10% are responsible for two-thirds of global heating since 1990, driving droughts and heatwaves in the poorest parts of the world, according to a study.

While researchers have previously shown that higher income groups emit disproportionately large amounts of greenhouse gases, the latest survey is the first to try to pin down how that inequality translates into responsibility for climate breakdown. It offers a powerful argument for climate finance and wealth taxes by attempting to give an evidential basis for how many people in the developed world – including more than 50% of full-time employees in the UK – bear a heightened responsibility for the climate disasters affecting people who can least afford it.

“Our study shows that extreme climate impacts are not just the result of abstract global emissions; instead we can directly link them to our lifestyle and investment choices, which in turn are linked to wealth,” said Sarah Schöngart, a climate modelling analyst and the study’s lead author.

if you can't read your owners manual there's probably adult education classes in your area

You know not being an asshole is free right?

Also, my manual actually says to warm it up for like a minute and then drive extremely slow.

Driving that slow in some areas isn’t even safe. And driving that slow means not getting up the hill.

Not to mention scraping ice without having the defroster running is near impossible. So the car is warming up and the defroster is hitting the window while I clean the ice off. Then it’s nice and clean for me to drive and not freezing cold inside so my toddler can go in the car and not be freezing.

What you should do is go fuck yourself…

hey, I'm being more of an asshole because you're being an asshole, and I thought it'd be funny to reply to you saying nobody cares because it seems like you care

does your manual say to drive "extremely slow" or does it say to keep the RPMs down and go easy on the throttle for a few minutes? because those are very different things and I'd give you my rebuttal to your points if you're open to debating without being assholes to eachother

and if not, I'm not dying on this hill

Yeah let’s not be assholes, no need.

It says keep RPM low, but I live in New England, I have to go up a big hill to get to my kids daycare almost immediately after leaving my house, my car is a 4cyl, i can gain speed and keep rpms low, but going up the hill makes it harder. I also don’t so this 100% of the time, only when it’s super freezing and the car is covered in ice and I have to get my kiddo to daycare.

This you?

Dude, nobody cares, shut up.

Maybe take both sets of your own advice.

Maybe mind your own business and don’t get involved. Me and that other commenter already squashed it.
