I think it’s serious, GT85 is advertised as being a cleaner and remove dirt, while also lubricating due to PTFE content.
Now:
I think it’s treated a bit like WD40 with its “magical” properties, they are both water displacing compounds that help clean away dirt.
As anyone would say: just wax your chain ;)
Wax your chain, then cleaning is just gently blowing away little wax chips. For OP, yes this a serious recommendation. Waxing has come a long way in the past few years. It's kind of a chore, but really not that bad. Much less hassle than all the headache described in that video.
Yet, AfaIk, the generic WD40 is not a lubricant and should not be used for bike chains.
Indeed, it just keeps things clean! “Magical” was meant ironically, this video shows a similar approach with another product. Oversimplification (where it’s not needed, as cleaning, degreasing and lubricating are quite straightforward things…)
