In that same period, Bartkus’ rhetoric on alternative social media sites was dark. “I would not acknowledge reproduction as a human right, but instead as a form of rape,” IndictEvolution wrote on Lemmy.World in July 2023. “I am also not bothered by infanticide as long as it is done humanely...”

I do find it odd that lemmy's first major insident isn't from .ml or any other Tankie instance, it's .world.

Does speak to the mismanagement of the moderation. This dude was fucked up in the head and only taken care of after this terrorist incident. You can call out moderators and be banned, you can be a dickhead edge lord who would later be a terrorist, and never get touched until the mods deal with it after.

Does speak to the mismanagement of the moderation...

Keep in mind that Lemmy.world has almost the same amount of monthly active users as the top 7 other Lemmy instances combined (according to FediDB). It's statistically very likely that they're from there.

Correct, but for an instance that tried to stop posts about Luigi, has wanted people to "Debate" flat world and transphobia, they just didn't do anything with the communities that lead to this attempted attack.

Meanwhile I know people who proved a mod wrong and got banned, and the mod hasn't been punished.

The communities that incubated this were on reddit. His lemmy.world account only made a few comments and posts 2 years ago and then never again. He created an anti-natalist community on lemmy.world in that time but it never became active.

Any link for this incident? Probably a report on !yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com ?

[-] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 18 hours ago

I asked the person who it happened to and they didn't wanna make a post.

[-] jerkface@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Sorry, what did this guy do that you think merited an admin taking a community away from its own mod?

Yeah. It’s kind of like saying you’re suprised rape happens more often in India than Iceland. (population differences distort probabilities).

It's the same with mass shooters and murderers on reddit. The posts only ever get taken down after it becomes public. Sites like .world are too large to moderate every single comment.

world does have the politics community which they allow a certain narrative more than others.

He was on Lemmy for a short time two years ago.

[-] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 day ago

He was much more active, and posted on the .world antinatalist fourm. The admins have removed posts/comments 3 days ago before the headlines rolled out.

If you check what a few members have posted (I'll try to gather what I can, I hate people who say something and then go "well google you dingus, and I hate being a hypocrite even more), he was active for a while beyond those 2 years, telling people some horrid shit.

I genuinely will try to gather what I can whenever I put on my biohazard suit and check some instances.

You sure? Usually, removed posts & comments still show up on their profile; they just say "removed" instead of seeing the actual text of it. Unless it was physically removed from the database, there would be some evidence of it. And even the database method wouldn't federate, I'm pretty sure, so you'd still be able to see it if you looked in other instances. On no instance that I checked was I able to find any evidence the user made any submissions after 23 July, 2023.

Please share if you find something but don't go out of your way.

[-] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 day ago

I probably will, I would rather give sources that prove me wrong than be one of those dipshits who go "Um googling is free, expecting me to give sources for things I'm saying is asking too much of me. Please ignore that people who made claims are the ones who are expected to prove it, instead of the other way around."
