Welcome to the News community!
Rules:
1. Be civil
Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.
2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.
He is but I really don't give a shit about what he has to say. How is this news?
I am inclined to give half an ear to the guy who wrote "Born in the USA", a song repeatedly misunderstood by a certain political party.
Yes, Born in the USA is by no means a patriotic anthem, but rather a critical song about the miserable situation of veterans and workers in the US. The MAGA people are just too stupid to understand that.
Springsteen has repeatedly criticized the fact that the song is being misused in this way and has long been a vocal critic of Drump.
If enough prominent figures in Nazi Germany stood up and said something in the early 30s, then millions upon millions of people may not have died.
Because he’s a wildly successful musician about whom a lot of people care.
I feel like we shouldn't care this much about the opinions of entertainers. That's kinda how trump got elected in the first place
Well, everyone's voice should matter - and the voice of a guy with millions of fans, from an older generation, and whose most famous song often gets co-opted by MAGAts, should definitely matter. I appreciate him and De Niro in particular for speaking up so vehemently.
The problem is their voice matters more than they should. I get your point but there are voices more knowledgeable that we should listen to. The minimum I feel they should use their celebrity to amplify voices like those
I know what you mean, but I don't agree in this case. We do live in an idiocracy where our minds have been numbed by the proliferation of mindless reality telly, and I wouldn't care to hear the opinions of Paradise Hotel contestant #967. But art is and always has been politics, and Springsteen - known for being a champion of the working man - has had his art co-opted by MAGAts for many years. Thus, hearing him take a stance against them is very much relevant and something that I want to hear. Especially on a personal level being from a country continually demeaned and threatened by MAGA America.
It's politics, not rocket science or medicine. You don't need to have a fancy degree or hundreds of dusty books on your bookshelf to have an opinion on the direction that your (previously democratic) country is taking. Politics is first and foremost based on feelings; so-called experts also strongly disagree on literally everything. And, at least in theory, it's your right, and the expectation, that a citizen of a democracy engages in politics, stays updated, and has an opinion. It's your privilege to have a platform on which you can influence others when you have a large enough following.
The minute we stop listening to artists and other represantatives of the public sphere that's when autocracy and plutocracy will truly defeat us.
To the masses it seems to have been news. Why else would they have elected him … again? ¯\_(o_°)_/¯
They elected Bruce Springsteen?
Would have been a much better choice for president, in spite of his lack of qualifications (not that Trump was ever qualified) and interest in getting the job.
Some even argue that the latter should be a requirement..
They elected trump because of Bruce Springsteen?
Sighs and leaves ...
Do you know what news is? Interesting things that happen. The boss of country music expressing hate for the right is very interesting.
Because a bunch of morons take their political cues from celebrities. It's good to have celebrities on the sane side of things so maybe those idiots start voting in a sane way.
