The Villages ~~and their sky-high STD rate~~ would beg to differ. (Edit: apparently that's just an urban legend. Still, old people in The Villages are very social)
People are spread out, require care, etc. It's not one or the other.
Maybe they can eventually connect the devices to their own FaceTime or call system, and folks could choose to interact with each other. I think that would be an awesome addition to it and a bit of a compromise to have both worlds.
I think that when being old and degrading, it is not necessarily the most fun and practical to be around other people that are degrading as well. At that point, people require more of a carer than an equal friend
