Fun fact: pierogi is plural. A singular one is a pierog.

I thought it was like squid and squid where the plural and singular are the same but wouldn’t it make more sense if it was like octopi and the singular of pierogi is pierogus?
Octopi is actually a false cognate--octopus comes from Greek, not Latin, so the plural would be octopodes. Octopus and octopuses are the generally used terms in modern English.
Yeah but pieroguses just doesn’t make sense.
I am now imagining the most delicious of dinosaurs.
Wouldn’t that be pierogisaurus?
