Can we please stop censoring words? It's just amazing how much damage has been done by platforms to people in this respect.

[-] But_my_mom_says_im_cool@lemmy.world 28 points 2 months ago

It’s why my iPhone sucks, censoring the most basic swears and auto correcting my cursing. What’s worse is you can even use words like “die “ anymore.

[-] CannedTuna@sh.itjust.works 20 points 2 months ago

You can setup auto completion rules to change words like ducking to fucking. What’s hilarious tho is when you actually intend to write something like ducking.

What did you do to your phone? I’ve never had any issues with mine trying to autocorrect die.

[-] accideath@feddit.org 3 points 2 months ago

Yea. Even got mine to easily type „fuck“ when using swipe-typing… You just have to be persistent for a little while

[-] ramble81@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago

Mine actually correctly autocorrects to fucking!

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 months ago

ive been wondering how to change my autocomplete setting .

It learns a bit as you type. But if you want it to forcibly recognize a word go to settings > general > keyboard > text replacement and add the words it won’t recognize. You can even add a shortcut for common typos. But it will hard override any “well you touched the edge of this key but I think you actually meant this” so use the shortcuts carefully.

[-] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

You need to tap on the word in quotes in the upper left of the keyboard before you hit space to train the autocorrect on a word you intentionally typed.

Not unless we stop reposting content from other social media which would make Lemmy even more dead than it already is.

[-] Saleh@feddit.org 19 points 2 months ago

lemmy is quite alive. Source: this post has 22 comments by the time of me writing this already.

[-] blarghly@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

There are dozens of us! Dozens!

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

Only a bit more than double since then. We are living like a medieval serf with the plague.

[-] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip -2 points 2 months ago

Oh man...22 comments in 3 hours. Positively booming...

[-] Saleh@feddit.org 5 points 2 months ago

I am fairly confident, that there is more content on lemmy right now, than a person can sift through.

If there is more than about a dozen comments under a post, i rarely read all of them.

[-] gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 2 months ago

yeah i think it's more about the quality than the quantity

like, there can be a thousand comments but all of them pointless, which is what happens when your social media platform only tries to grow in user numbers. we should strive for quality over quantity, i think.

[-] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago

Not in the [not exactly small] niches I'm interested in. Front pages are stale for DAYS

[-] MotoAsh@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Nah, just the "active" algorithm is shit in Lemmy. Try other sorts. I promise the feed will change. Not as much as I'd like, but it does change.

[-] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 0 points 2 months ago

...I do. But the majority of the communities I subscribe to (and I have found multiple iterations across different instances) are not very active. Their reddit counterparts are.

You can stop trying to reject my experiences with your nonsense to make yourself look right. You're not.

[-] MotoAsh@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I'm not rejecting your experience but pointing out the fact that other sorts are far more active.

It's not my or Lemmy's shortcoming that there aren't as many ~~bots~~ users posting on a platform that is MUCH newer and specifically in competition with the long-standing one, and your shitty attitude is going to produce the opposite result that you want.

[-] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 0 points 2 months ago

Yeah I'm sure me pointing out that there being more content than a person can sift through doesn't matter if it's not the right kind of content, will keep all the people who aren't in Lemmy from joining Lemmy...

And apparently me stating that basic fact is enough to get labeled as a shitty attitude, as well as blamed for the actual shortcoming of having fewer people. Which is definitely not the type of aggressive behavior that is more likely to keep people away than an acknowledgement of current low population.

Good job.

[-] MotoAsh@lemmy.world -1 points 2 months ago

Keep digging that hole, bud.

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago

Make sure to switch up how you look at posts and you'll see that it is more alive than you think. Active seems the most dead which is default, but I still check it. I go by hot, active, 6 hours and scaled, in that order.

[-] moakley@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

I've started taking censored posts like this and emphatically uncensoring them so the naughty words are even more prominent.

I posted it in another comment.
