what do you plan on getting support for?
warranty wouldn't, and shouldn't cover software. it should be for hardware failures.
do you plan on asking the hardware manufacturers to help you with Linux installing and updates and whatnot? imo, they should have nothing to do with that. you should be on your own, or you need a dedicated MSP who can manage your devices for you
Support isn't just for technical help. Like OP said, driver updates are a form of support.
I agree on your general point, but it also means that they produce OEM drivers that only work with a specific OS version. If you update, then you're on your own regarding those drivers. This is the case for instance for some touchpad/trackpoint or battery custom drivers available for Ubuntu 20.04 on an X1 Carbon, but not later Ubuntu versions.
