I think it’s worth saying that "hahaha australia is a dangerous place that wants to kill you" jokes are (subtle) colonial propaganda
they depict australia as a wild, unlivable place to be tamed, a common colonial argument (the same was said of the american west), when the reality is it’s been inhabited for millennia
(not blaming you OP, or anyone else who made those jokes btw, it’s not obvious that they’re colonial in nature)
