I don't see how this could be seen as anything but a violation of privacy and an attempt to chill free speech.

From what I've learned recently, those may not be safe options.

Best bet would be Mullvad, IMO.

This video summarizes it well though it is a bit of a shill. I've actually taken the time to validate the claims made here and haven't been able to refute them.

There was a long talk on Linus tech tips with the CEO of PIA refuting that ownership by kape has any bearing on the operation of the service. With PIA open sourcing everything and allowing independent auditors into their datacentres to validate claims, the consensus is that they're just as good as any other provider
