7.0GB per ISO

What the hell. Why so heavy

[-] Damage@feddit.it 29 points 1 month ago

Because it downloads nothing and it's got several softwares and tools bundled in

It's got most stuff on it. They'd include the entire repo if they could, but a dvd only fits 8gb.

Just out of curiosity, I wonder what percentage of the downloaders burned a DVD to boot the ISO. I have to imgaine almost everyone is using USB sticks these days.

There are dozens of us! Dozens!

(Installed it on an older DDR3 PC for someone)

Was it more convenient or was it not bootable from USB? Bootable from USB started becoming common about 20 years ago, I'm surprised Bazzite even works on machines that old.

It does, but runs a bit slow. Switched it to Garuda xfce after.

I don't know if it was faster or slower than USB 2.0 Speeds

Gives you more comparability on pen drives, too. Lots of people probably have a 8gb stick lying around, people are somewhat less likely to have a bigger one.

To fit all the gamin'

IIRC, it is a current limitation of rpm-ostree, which results in an ISO that is nearly double in size.
