Now, here's an idea that just plain and simple didn't work. (Of course, it has plenty of company in that regard.)

I was thinking about Western films and that common scene of some guy getting thrown out the swinging doors and into the street. In this case, every customer in the place is either running or being thrown out―implying that there's a pretty tough and angry character somewhere inside. And how tough a guy is this mystery person? Well, that's his bear parked outside. It's confusing, obtuse, esoteric, and strange―in other words, it's a Far Side cartoon.

I was wondering if the idea was that someone so tough that they ride a bear was inside fighting, and at least I was right. But yeah, not his best gag.

I was thinking the bear belonged to window guy. That the guy jumping out the window was that dumb kind of tough that does reckless things like jumping out glass windows and riding a bear.
Definitely wouldn’t have got it without the context.

Hello fellow Far Side fans!

About this community and how I post the comic strip… Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips and one of those was The Far Side. These days of course you find just about anything online including www.thefarside.com where they post several comics a day and I repost them here. Just to note, the date you see in my posts is not the initial release date, but the date they were posted on the website.

The Far Side is a single-panel comic created by Gary Larson and syndicated by Chronicle Features and then Universal Press Syndicate, which ran from December 31, 1979, to January 1, 1995 (when Larson retired as a cartoonist).
