WASHINGTON (AP) — A JetBlue flight from the small Caribbean nation of Curaçao halted its ascent to avoid colliding with a U.S. Air Force refueling tanker on Friday, and the pilot blamed the military plane for crossing his path.

“We almost had a midair collision up here,” the JetBlue pilot said, according to a recording of his conversation with air traffic control. “They passed directly in our flight path. ... They don’t have their transponder turned on, it’s outrageous.”

The incident involved JetBlue Flight 1112 from Curaçao, which is just off the coast of Venezuela, en route to New York City’s JFK airport. It comes as the U.S. military has stepped up its drug interdiction activities in the Caribbean and is also seeking to increase pressure on Venezuela’s government.

One of the "benefits" of war is that the Republican trifecta can use it to cancel elections.

They're not gonna cancel elections. They're just gonna make it so only rich white people can vote and only fascists can run.

That's just more of the same. They already disenfranchise people who aren't rich or white, they already limit who can run.

If they don't actually drastically change their strategy for the midterms, they're fucked. They have to know this.

War gives them that opportunity.

Yeah my comment is more about the procedure than the effect. Like I don't think there's gonna be an official proclamation like "Elections are hereby cancelled", they're just gonna come up with enough ways to "cancel" undesirable ballots that it'll be like the election never happened. I.e., more of what has been done before, but done harder. IMO, going this route would be harder for people to call out because it's systemic and "quiet", and USians have zero systems thinking skills overall.

I think they'll say the quiet part out loud. They can't seem to help themselves.
