I don't know why you're being downvoted, you're absolutely right. A quick google search contained no information about his religion

[-] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Multiple outlets are reporting he’s a Muslim man. I’d imagine others are not as his religion isn’t exactly relevant to his being a hero.

[-] Gorilladrums@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

They're not reporting it because there's no evidence regarding this man's religious beliefs. You just went out of your way to find a couple of clickbait headlines without even bothering to read them to spread narratives. You're a part of the problem.

'We saw the actions of a brave man... a brave Muslim, and I salute him for stopping one of the terrorists from killing innocent Jews,' the Prime Minister stated, as reported by the Times of Israel.

Kindly get off your high horse.

The source of this guy being muslim in the article is literally Benjamin Netanyahu...

Regardless, all I wanted was for you to provide an article that at least had a source for the claim. I don't trust anything Netanyahu says out of principle, but still this is an article that does provide something to support the claim. It's not a pure clickbait headline that's misleading. So there we go, that puts whatever this was to rest.

After sleeping this off I think I was being too much of a dick needlessly. I can respect and agree with your desire to make sure facts are well vetted before potentially pushing a false narrative. Cheers mate

I was being too much of an ass as well. We're all good bro

It's nice to see you doing this, but you really weren't the problem in this thread. That account was not posting in good faith. You were immediately accused of spreading misinformation, then when you politely provided evidence, they doubled down both on the sealioning and the name calling. The votes tell the story here and you did well and you did good.

[-] potustheplant@feddit.nl 2 points 3 months ago

Well, the linked article is literally titled "Bondi Beach hero revealed as Muslim fruit seller Ahmed al Ahmed", so maybe that's why? Just a wild guess.

[-] Gorilladrums@lemmy.world -4 points 3 months ago

That's just the title moron, if you bothered to read through the 3 paragraph article, you'll quickly see that there's NOTHING in the article that even hints at this man's religious beliefs. The headline is just there for click bait and you fell for it

[-] potustheplant@feddit.nl 2 points 3 months ago

You seem like a very pleasant individual.

[-] crapwittyname@feddit.uk 1 points 3 months ago

The title is part of the report, moron. There are no special rules that mean you can lie in the title, moron. There are no special rules that mean you have to expand on every detail in the title or else it's not true, moron.

[-] Gorilladrums@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

I'm having a hard time understanding your comment. Are you implying that media outlets don't lie in their headlines? Are you perhaps implying that claims don't require evidence for you to believe them?

[-] Gorilladrums@lemmy.world 0 points 3 months ago

Media literacy is dead. People on here are willing to believe clickbait headlines and misinformation if it pushes a narrative they subscribe to.

[-] Randomgal@lemmy.ca -1 points 3 months ago

It's because the 'people' you are talking are either propagandists or bots.

[-] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

lol yes I made this account years ago in preparation for an argument as stupid as this. You sound ridiculous.
