For this Sunday Kino Night, first up is Kumbalangi Nights (2019), an Indian rom-com centered on four brothers in a Kerala fishing village who can barely stand to be around each other: one bro is mute, one is lazy, one has a hot temper, and one is mature but ignored due to his youth. Hilarity ensues when one of them falls in love, and the other bros learn to work together as they help his romance along, and deal with the sinister influence of the love interest’s evil brother-in-law. This is the first, and so far, only feature film from director Madhu C. Narayanan. One of the highest-rated Indian films on Letterboxd.

After that is The Miracle Worker (1962), the film adaptation of William Gibson’s famed 1957 play of the same name, starring Patty Duke as the young deafblind later-activist Helen Keller, and Anne Bancroft as her half-blind teacher, Anne Sullivan. Will Anne be able to break through Helen’s sensory barriers and teach her the wonders of language? I guess we’ll find out. Director is Arthur Penn, whose Bonnie and Clyde (1967) we previously watched. This is considered one of the best works of everyone involved, so let’s check it out.

We’ll start at 8PM EST on Blorptube, right here:
