The American people at their worst.

[-] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

This isn't the American people. It's the will of thousands of the world's most powerful multinational oligarchs — billionaires and old money millionaire elites (plus all their class-traitor lapdogs and puppets) — who are actively corrupting ALL politics and public discourse; waging class warfare, globally.

Murdoch is one of the most well-known examples, but I'm sure there are hundreds (if not thousands) of fossil fuel and military contractor investors or board members — you've never heard of — who are criminally corrupt psychopaths that deserve to be in the dirt.

These people's only allegiance is to the almighty dollar. They have no real virtue, morals, or ethics.

Half of the American people voted for him. So it absolutely is.

[-] 418_im_a_teapot@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 months ago

MANY people who wanted to vote were prevented from voting. Many votes weren’t counted. There were bomb threats across Atlanta. All of it was enough to swing the election.

Some Americans voted for this, but the majority did not.

[-] entropicdrift@lemmy.sdf.org -2 points 2 months ago

Only about 2/3rds voted, so closer to 30% voted for him

[-] calcopiritus@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

And the other 1/3 didn't mind trump enough to vote. So yes, it is the majority of American people.

[-] original_charles@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

Because of the electoral college, getting out to vote when you otherwise wouldn't have is almost entirely useless in most states as the party most states will side with is basically a forgone conclusion.

On top of that, the Republican party has spent decades making it deliberately difficult to vote by limiting the number of polling places, as well as limiting mail in voting.

The Democratic party on the other hand refuses to attempt radical economic upheaval that poorer US citizens desperately need because Democrats are still the "moderate" party that is in the pocket of billionaires.

The Republicans routinely promise radical actions that they say will make things better for everyone. They're lying of course, but it's hard to be exceptionally poor, have no access to health care and vote for the party that is not advocating radical actions on your behalf.

It's 1 day every 4 years (2 including midterms). Even if the nearest polling place is 1 hour drive away. Even if your vote won't be the deciding vote. In my country it takes less than 10 minutes to vote, but lets say it is 2 hours in the USA. That is a total of 4 hours.

If 1/3 of US-Americans are not willing to "lose" 4 hours every 4 years. And 1/3 of USAmericans directly vote for fascism. Then a majority of USAmericans are ok with fascism.

[-] 418_im_a_teapot@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago

You literally don’t understand voting in America.

[-] MrTomS@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Remember 4.7 million voters were purged from the rolls in 2024.

Yes too many didn't care enough to vote but enough were prevented from voting to swing the election. Republicans are an anti democracy party

[-] tomiant@piefed.social 0 points 2 months ago

Always were. You know that bullshit they always spewed about "small government"? What they meant was NO government, because then the power is wielded by money and physical strength, i e fascism, just like they want it.

They don't believe in democracy because they believe they must and shall rule regardless of whatever anybody else wants.

Just like a religion, just like a cult. Now look at them!

No, they live large government. It just has to be them and hurting people.

[-] realitista@lemmus.org 0 points 2 months ago

Okay but that just means we don't know what 1/3 would do.

[-] comrade_twisty@feddit.org -1 points 2 months ago

If you’re one of the 1/3 of the dipshits who did not vote you bare full responsibility for this mess! You are part of the problem, you had a choice and you chose to support this idiocracy.

[-] azertyfun@sh.itjust.works -1 points 2 months ago

We know exactly what they are doing already. Watching the trains go by to Dachau saying "better them than me". Watching their sons and daughters go to war saying "well I'm not really political".

Feckless cowards. They bear full responsibility for the current situation yet you can't count on them to do anything they aren't made to do.

[-] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

You know, sometimes I see all you non-americans pissed off that "nothing is being done" and think "know what? Maybe we should let the regime destroy the world."

[-] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 months ago

The government represents the people, and in the US, the government is a very good reflection of the US as a whole.

[-] edible_funk@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Yes but also us Americans, so proud of our second amendment, are refusing to use it for its intended purpose.

[-] lka1988@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Because the 2A nutjobs were always just that - nutjobs, looking for an excuse to kill people they don't like.
