Oh, right. YouTube has ads.

Why do people watch YT with ads when there are options not to?

[-] tempest@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 month ago

On a browser on my PC the choice is easy.

On every other device I own there is substantial friction to blocking the ads(by design)

Android: Revanced, Morphe, Newpipe

iOS: AdGuard

Android TV: SmartTube

WebOS: Youtube-webOS (unfortunately requires registering a developer account)

Use newpipe it's great. You can even listen instead of watch. Live streams work too and you can subscribe to your chosen channels and create local playlist. Basically you can't comment but you can read comments.

On desktop, Firefox and ublock origin.

On android, Newpipe.

I dont see any ads ever.

I do see them in the official YouTube app so when I Chromecast, I have ads. Im ok with seeing a few ads when I chromecast to tv. Its not so often i do it.

Can you give some examples?
I own no such devices.

Is it that you use official YT apps?
And is it worth it vs just not watching YT?

Other sibling comments are mentioning revanced which I have tried in the past however it constantly stopped working out would only play the first 10 seconds of a video.

I have not tried new pipe or morph so maybe I'll take a look or see if Vanced has improved since I last tried it.

I see mentions of iOS ad blockers but no apps for my iPads.
