Snowcrash is awesome, your free library doesn’t mail books does it ? 😂

I keep hearing that but I couldn't get through it! It just didn't hold my attention.

That’s how I feel about Neuromancer and most other cyberpunk books.

I found Snow Crash the easiest of his to get through. Love the Deliverator and Uncle Enzo. Would love a film version with Jason Momoa as Raven.

Stormlight Archives blows mistborn out of the water for me personally.

Not in the slightest. Much closer to traditional fantasy than anything, but much more modern than what you would get from Tolkien or the wheel of time

Wasn’t there a sci-fi serie in there or am I misremembering hard? Anyway I’m reading Mistborn (very slowly), it’s fucking good

[-] krewjew@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Sanderson does have some sci fi stuff like Rekoners and Skyward that are not part of the same universe as mistborn and stormlight. I haven’t read them though, so I can’t give much of an opinion

[-] nitefox@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Yeah, I have Skyward in my very long backlog

Nope, but if you find yourself in Portland... ;)

Be there as soon as the traffic dies down on 26 (kidding)

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.one 2 points 2 years ago

It won't be ready, ready until the 9th. My kid got me the untreated fence post and bench and bare wood isn't going to hold up in Oregon rain, so this weekend is priming and painting, then the install is going to happen Saturday the 9th.

The library itself is weatherproof, made from recycled milk jugs of all things!

Very cool :) if I’m ever in the area I’ll have to swing by. I love LFLs. I consider it my mission to drop off a couple of books a month to the ones near me on dog walks as an excuse to check what’s been left there haha. Someone near me is also a sci-fi/speclit enthusiast and I like to think we’re supplementing each other’s purchases.
