The IOC said earlier this week that Heraskevych could pay tribute to the fallen athletes by wearing a black armband during competition and could show his helmet in mixed zones, news conferences and on social media, but that "the field of play is sacrosanct".

It added that IOC officials would "beg" him not to wear it as they wanted him to compete.

On Thursday, IOC spokesperson Mark Adams said that if the committee allowed athletes to wear kit commemorating those killed in war, it would open the Games up to exploitation.

"There are according to the Red Cross, 130 conflicts going on at any one time. We can't have them all in competition [with each other at the Games]," he said.

"The field of play could become a field of expression, you could see it would lead to chaos. We cannot have athletes put on them by political masters to make expressions during competition.

"We do our best to create a level playing field, I make no apologies for that."

Yeah I'm sure that if everyone had a helmet with a few pictures it would cause war.

At the same time, if they started allowing that, they would immediately defend the few shits that would come with swastikas on their helmet along the lines of "we allow political helmets so we cannot pick and choose".

Ah, what a beautiful world of nazis.

The perils of black-or-white thinking. We cannot make difficult, nuanced decisions anymore, that would be too much for our feeble systems. We must always follow policy strictly because the policy is always right and it was never intended to be a reflection of the will of the people or the morals of the people. Even if the will of the people changes, the policy must still override them, because we value policy above people, and those silly people keep changing their minds all the time and don't they know how much work it is to keep the policies up to date with that? Imagine if we changed the policy every time people changed their minds, it would be chaos!

Surely there is no sensible, reasonable middle ground we could ever achieve. No reasonability needed, we can just deal with absolutes and extremes all the time instead. Much easier.

It's all bullshit though.

They pretend that everything is black and white so that they can support their ideology.

Usually I try to assume that people are stupid before assuming that they are evil, but let's face it, this kind of enlightened centrism is not out of stupidity, but out of being a nasty piece of shit.

And only once the pieces of shits and their bullshit policies are burnt down to the ground, will there ever be progress.
