Hakon comes from a name meaning "High son / Chosen son" equivalent to the Gaelic Acainn, used by many monarchs in Norway including the current one, which I suppose is similar to Patrick ("Noble" - Latin), Max ("Greatest" - English), or Rex ("King" - Latin).
