Arch: Control VLC through terminal commands?
(lemmy.world)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

VLC appears to support MPRIS, so commands like
Should be able to control it. See the Relevant arch wiki page for more info.
VLC also appears to have a TUI interface. Check out the VLC wiki

playerctlinstalled on their system? Or is there a Python package like it?You could always run
whereis playerctland parse the output with awk or sedwhereisis not a Bash built-in so it may itself not be installed, plus it exits 0 and returns output even on no match requiring additional logic/processing.whichorcommandare more robust choices for this usecase
