Sure it is. So you won't mind when I replace $1000 of your money with $1000 of Monopoly money.

It is. Anything a lot of people agree on is valuable, is valuable.
Yes and no.
Money is currency that's recognized by the state. Crypto is not.
But now my country (Italy) is making you pay taxes if you own crypto.
So, in a way, it's recognised?
