Yeah it's Bleach. I really liked the series but it suffers from the fact it has almost 400 episodes. Pacing is stretched as much as possible and filler always sucks but I can't deny that the plot and characters are good.

I'm so glad that they dropped a long running model and switched to a seasonal one.

Bleach suffered from the fact that Ichigo mostly reacted to shit and never had his own goals or desires.

The first arc is interesting because he does want to rescue Rukia, but then he immediately repeats that arc in a less interesting way. And from then on, he just goes with the flow, and fights whoever is lined up next.

Contrast One Piece and Naruto, because they also started at about the same time, Luffy and Naruto both start with firm goals. They want, and that drives the story. Ichigo just reacts, other people drive the story.

I like the story in Bleach even if the main plot is just Ichigo getting stronger and discovering different hidden powers. What really shines in Bleach are side characters imo. More often than not side characters are neglected as soon as they finish their role in the story but in Bleach captains are always relevant. They actually grow with MC and we get to see their hidden or unusual side. Their designs and powers are also very well done. That's why my only complaint is the fact the story could be shown in 72 episodes or so.

Naruto on the other hand I really dislike. I didn't watch the show as a kid so I have no nostalgia for it. I watched it at the same time as Bleach and I think Bleach is way better. Naruto is way too annoying. Character design is terrible and just like in Bleach everything is way too dragged out. I get that this is also an unfair comparison since both shows target different demographics but even considering that Naruto falls short.

As for One Piece I'm afraid to even start it... 1000 episodes is wild ...

As someone who watches one piece, it's intimidating but Pluto TV runs it constantly. The show has fillers and recap episodes spread around because the series started in the 90s. Just tune in whenever you have a half hour and watch for a bit. Get lost and without context, find excuses to watch it from the beginning.

This half an hour is competing with more than 200 shows on my plan to watch list 😭

I will be watching the remake though.

So many side characters could have made it on their own. My fav is Nelial Odelschwank (?) (I never spell this correctly)

I feel like there are a few characters that could have their own spinoff and be quite good. My top pick is Hitsugaya. One filler episode is him goofing around in our world. A rare case when filler is actually good.
