One friend lives in an old house with a gas leak

Drove me fucking nuts

[-] extremeboredom@lemmy.world 58 points 2 days ago

I love that the gas leak is just accepted as a feature of the home, like bay windows or a sunken living room.

Without the gas leak the rent would be almost double.

Knew a family that had a gas leak, it was underground near the house though.

They’d had the gas company there multiple times, but in the end just shrugged and said it wasn’t dangerous and never found or fixed it.

That sounds insane... Crazy dangerous

[-] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

It was too diffused to locate it apparently. And it was a fairly rich neighborhood too. Not very near where I lived thankfully.

[-] Junkasaurus@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

That sounds…irresponsible

I know somebody whose house blew up from a gas leak, killed one of the tenants. The one that the landlord paid $7 an hour to help change the hot water heater and did it wrong. The ATF investigated and declared an oopsie. Dead guys dumbass wife despite knowing there's a gas leak and being told not to light a cigarette lit a cigarette.

I've changed a gas water heater before, and I can confirm that you have to be a dumbass not to be real careful to do it right, especially if you live in the house!

[-] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 days ago

I have changed several. Have yet to kill anybody.

[-] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

The city I changed them in would have had me crucified if I killed someone with my work, the homeowner gets a pass.

Unfortunately. Been a while since I visited

Then he should at least fix it himself, if for some reason calling the landlord or the fire department aren't options.
