No, because you can keep using it if you disagree with its creators by simply using a different instance, unlike if you disagree with Spez on Reddit.

[-] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 42 points 6 days ago

You mean Spez, the former mod of r/jailbait/, right?

[-] khannie@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago

He was added as a mod as a joke (mods can mod anyone without their having a say in it). The guy is cunt enough without misinformation though this one's been doing the rounds a long time.

[-] egrets@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago

I helped moderate a couple of mid-sized communities and users had to actively accept moderation appointment, but maybe that was only true after a certain date?

[-] khannie@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago

Yeah I'd guess that was probably after this incident haha. Definitely was early enough days in Reddit when this happened. I opened my account on there a long time ago (13 years maybe?) and thankfully the only thing I really remember about the jailbait sub is it getting banned.

Not truly - see other comment in this thread (he likely was not aware that someone had added him, as iirc he had made zero moderation activities, and early on in Reddit anyone could add anyone else as a moderator without their permission or even knowledge).

It's disinformation that people continue to spread bc it makes spez look bad, although it's not like there are not many more VALID reasons that spez sucks.

You can't keep using your account on lemmy.ml if you disagree with their policies.

Lemmy the software is different from lemmy.ml the instance. They are both authoritarian in nature but the latter to a far higher degree than the former.

The tankies were some of the first to be purged from Reddit so they were on the ground floor of Lemmy. They are baked in.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 5 days ago

im not surprised, conservatives are too pervasive to banned everywhere, especially with the help of bots.

[-] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 days ago

Leftists are just as pervasive as conservatives, leftists have no backup, conservatives do. They have politicians, they have all sorts of institutes, they have media organizations, and they have astroturfs bullshit. Ask your Turf by people that want to use them to overthrow the Republic but that's another story. We don't have any of that. We're totally desperate and they make sure to set us against each other and it sure fucking works with you dumb motherfuckers no offense.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 3 days ago

that is true, they have propaganda apparatus afforded by FOX via murdoch and PUTINS TROLL farms. plus funding all these right wing governments by putin, of which billionaires benefit from his trolls.

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Nah. Lemmy doesn't bot ban me for discussing my Constitutional rights and speaking ill of fascists.

[-] OpenStars@piefed.social 1 points 4 days ago

I mean... look up santabot, we literally do have such bots here (although Lemmy does not notify you when you get banned from somewhere, so it's entirely possible that maybe you've been banned numerous times but simply don't know it? :-P), plus Lemmy.ml is extremely well-known for doing exactly this though?

It is far less common here though, yes. Probably bc we are smaller.

Pretty much. The Ye Power Tripping Bastards community never lacks for content.

[-] Bogus007@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 days ago

I suppose that some toxic mods from Reddit also infiltrated Lemmy.

What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether it be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users, as it handwaves their extremism.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post, rather than engaging in arguments that lack mutual agreement.

Brigading/Trolling — If you're here because this community was linked in another thread, please refrain from maliciously voting, commenting, or manipulating the post in any way. This includes alt accounts. All votes are public, and if you are found to be brigading, you will be banned. Good-faith and honest communication is an exception.

Tankies can explain their views, but may be criticised or challenged for them. Any minor infraction of the rules may result in a warning and possibly a temporary ban.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically last only 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction doubles the duration. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.
