I really wonder how they managed to make the Twitter experience so bad. Musk took a working platform and made tons of weird choices. Now you can't even read Tweets without having an account.

Why would you even want to look at it at this point? It's Nazis all the way down now.

As much as I like decentralized alternatives there are plenty of information accounts that are quite useful. For example in my country the rail company informs about interruptions and other issues on Twitter, which is useful to know.

Such public services should not rely on a single communication channel controlled by a capricious private entity.

Agreed, got an AMBER alert on my phone the other day and the link for more info leads to their twitter account... Which I couldn't see without logging in.

It's because Musk sniffs his own farts and has bullshitted his way into more and more money his entire life. He wanted to morph Twitter into the platform he wanted, but also tried to make it net a profit, by 1) fucking over people/companies to whom he owed money, and 2) trying to squeeze money out of users who had used the platform for free for over a decade.

He's one of those asshole kids who start bum fights, but he's trying to get the bums to pay him for participating and he's not paying out to the bettors who won.

They did walk that back, at least.
