I miss being able to tap 'down' to get to the next chain of comments.

I miss being able to close off an entire chain of comments.

Right now all I have is... Comment.

I feel like I've turned on and off everything that should let me have that...

Someone wanna fill me in which options those are? If they made the move to lemmy?

You can active volume button navigation to use them to navigate from top comment to top comment.
