You can also use VLC or mpv. IINA is a good option for macOS.
I know, I used the VLC before as mediaplayer, it's very good, but the SMplayer is better, I think, Do the same, but with an cleaner UI and way easier to handle.Even eith plug-ins, eg to search direct ly YT videos, among others. It is is the graphic interface of the MPlayer and the mpv engine.
I prefer mpv because the SMplayer user interface is horrible IMO
Well, question of taste, anyway don't matter, they do the same. Try also this one (also FOSS), works wonderfully well and blazing fast.
