The article doesn't say they were illegal immigrants, did you make that part up?

[-] jrs100000@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

It certainly implied it :

The chairman of of Pakistan’s Senate, Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, disclosed the numbers in a statement Sunday, sending condolences to grieving families of the dead. “Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and we pray that the departed souls find eternal peace,” Sanjrani said. “This devastating incident underscores the urgent need to address and condemn the abhorrent act of illegal human trafficking.”

Human trafficking is illegal but is not illegal to seek asylum.

I know and I agree. Thats why I left it at "implied".

Greek here, they were illegal immigrants. They were helpless people in a boat with a broken engine. They were people fleeing from a war. They were people that didn't ask for help fearing pushbacks, concetration camps, and police abuse. They were people the coast guard stood and watched them die for 3 days.

It's not illegal to flee a war.

[-] tallwookie@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

but it is illegal to enter a country without coming through customs, which is exactly what happened

What war were they fleeing?

Pakistan is not engaged in any hot conflicts currently... These people are economic refugees.
