I'm thinking of like "Is there a [blank]" or "Where would I find [blank]" sort of community where one might ask things like, "Is there a creator/YouTube channel/blog covering [blank]" or "Where would I find a durable [blank]?"

Sort of a general looking for [thing/source] community, rather than personal help/care kind of community (as I know some of those are around).

Atm I think the AskLemmy communities are sorta being used for these questions, so I'm guessing maybe there isn't an alternative?

I think it ultimately depends on what you are looking for, if there is a community for that then go there first. AskLemmy is good for questions you want input on. For other stuff I think places like !chatter@lemmy.ca (I'd like that place to be more active), !chat@beehaw.org (if you're federated there), !general@lemmy.world are good places to put questions looking for something that doesn't necessarily fit any existing categories.

(fixed chat to chatter)

Thanks for the advice! Also, maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I think the chat community on lemmy.ca isn't around anymore...? Didn't show up when I searched there and the link leads to an error page, so unfortunately I think that's no longer an option.

Ah shoot, figured out why, it's !chatter@lemmy.ca no wonder no one can get to it, haha!

As with /r/411 this is where you ask what Community you're looking for but not finding. Perhaps a bit more helpful now that some communities are only found on certain instances.

Found/new community announcements - there are numerous "announcement type communities - see https://lemmy.ca/post/612532

There is also !wowthislemmyexists@lemmy.ca

Before you request There are several resources available to find communities and resources and these have been pinned to the top.
