There is a surprising amount of free space in this phone, I have other mods in the works. Especially if I can find a replacement battery. It's a surface Duo 2.

Yeah, there's approximately 3mm around the battery, which was almost free floating in the phone. When the back glass fell off, the battery came out with it.

That space may be there for safety reasons. Aging or mishandled lithium-cobalt batteries tend to swell. Giving them space to swell into reduces the chance of a fire or an explosion.

If you're going to cram a larger battery into that space, be very careful of what kind you use, or you may find your phone literally burning a hole in your pocket.

I've had plenty of swollen batteries, the double sided tape I'm using would give way pretty easily to that luckily.
