Kelsey Grammer sounded curt this morning when he brusquely told a BBC Today program interviewer that he still supports Donald Trump but, according to his interviewer, this curtness doesn’t tell the full story.

Grammer’s interviewer Justin Webb said the Frasier star was “perfectly happy” to go on talking about his support for the former POTUS, “the Paramount+ PR team, less so.”

Grammer has previously expressed support for Trump – a relatively rare position for a TV and movie star to take – and he also used his BBC interview to back Roseanne Barr, another self-confessed Trump supporter.

I wish we had been able hear his full comments. All of the craziness aside he really is a pretty intelligent person so his decision to vocally and emphatically support Trump is beyond anomalous, it's so antithetical to seemingly every element of his own career.

Trump is literally the sideshow Bob character in that court scene ranting about how people want a king and that's why they need Republicans. I guess it was sort of tongue in cheek then but now it reads as saying the quiet part out loud.

Plus Frasier the show was remarkably inclusive(for an almost all white TV show that is), very openly liberal and sometimes even progressive. It just seems so fucking strange for him to come out as a trumpet.

Is he? He has made a career out of playing smart people, but I don't know if he's smart.

Watch the old Rosanne episodes. Her show was very progressive for its time. She had characters who were gay and in loving relationships. The fact that they were gay wasn't a punchline - well, not any more than the straight characters were made fun of for their sexual antics. There was even an episode where a gay woman kissed Rosanne. At the time, this was shocking to see on TV.

They had an episode where DJ refused to kiss a girl in his class (for a school play) because she was black and Rosanne and Dan were upset regarding his bigoted attitude.

If anything, Dan was the more conservative of the two in some instances. DJ once wanted to dress as a witch (IIRC) for Halloween and Dan was against it because it wasn't manly enough. Rosanne was supportive.

The character of Rosanne should have evolved into a progressive who was supportive of LGBTQ folks, people of different ethnicities (though she would have still been blunt about it), etc. Instead, thanks to the real Rosanne, fictional Rosanne became a hard-core Trumper.

That was good role reversal as Sideshow Bob is voiced by Grammer.
