If you share a link from twitter to other platforms you used to see a preview... but not for a while now. Doesn't matter if it's Facebook or Lemmy, twitter.com replies with a 404 on links that work fine even without being logged in.

Are they incompetent or is this a strategy to limit incoming traffic? 🤣

Why do we need to be so pedantic about people use or don't use?

[-] jmcs@discuss.tchncs.de 37 points 9 months ago

Because I have to live on the same planet as the people that spend their time on radicalization tools? Because the more closed platforms are used, the bigger the damage to the open internet they do? Because I can't even get current information on my neighborhood without it being mediated through an oligarch's platform because "that's what everyone else uses"? Because even elected officials are posting information that's not available to people that don't sign up to a service that's owned by neo-nazi?

You have a point but there's a huge chunk of people that aren't well informed enough (we already all know of the people that simply don't care, I'm not talking about those) and still use it.

I have to live on the same planet on people that do a lot of things that I don't agree. That's called living in a society.

You all lose time and energy lecturing people that are already on Fedi because they for some reason that you do not know are engaging with a platform that you don't like. It's just like, we all know Twitter bad. Chill.

[-] VivaLaSully@beehaw.org 1 points 9 months ago

I agree. Too many people use Twitter to just label them all shitty nazis. It's as idiotic as blaming a whole religious groups for the actions of a few extremists.

And your comment about the uninformed is spot on. Tons of people are just not thinking about all this stuff for one reason or another, and in a sense I don't blame them. If it wasn't for my child I'd love to bury my head in the sand and just try and get through this maelstrom called life.

Like you said, most people just think Twitter sucks now and move on, at this rate musk will kill it for good in the next 5 years. That or it becomes a pathetic echo chamber like truth social.

I think it will die earlier, but who knows haha

Thank you for the reply, I'm not as good as exposing my opinions as English is my second language, but you understood exactly what I meant!

If people would consider that a lot of people are easily charmed by big corporations because they offer convenience/easy to use service mostly because they barely have time for themselves I think the world would be a better place.

[-] VivaLaSully@beehaw.org 1 points 9 months ago

I agree, mate. And your English is better than mine and it's my only language, very articulate.

Why do we care if people support this Nazi platform or its owner?

You might not, I wouldn't call caring about it pedantic though.

[-] smeg@feddit.uk 9 points 9 months ago

But how will people know I'm a cool edgy internet user if I don't post "fuck twitter" and "AI bad" on every article without thinking that maybe people wanted to have a discussion about it?

[-] joenforcer@midwest.social 5 points 9 months ago

Sir, this is Lemmy. The correct terms are "fuck cars" and "capitalism bad".

"Capitalism bad" is the most annoying one. We're all reminded every day that capitalism is bad, comments which just mechanically repeat an overwhelmingly popular opinion without adding anything to the discussion are something I hoped we'd left to die with reddit.

What's so fundamentally different about Lemmy that made you think that the people would act differently than normal?

[-] smeg@feddit.uk 2 points 9 months ago

I figured the buttom-of-the-barrel commenters wouldn't care about the enshittification and couldn't be bothered to move!

Okay I see where you're coming from with that. Unfortunately it seems those commenters are everywhere!

[-] pbjamm@beehaw.org 1 points 9 months ago

fuck artificial ignorance!
wake up sheeple

[-] vivadanang@lemm.ee 8 points 9 months ago

as long as you know you're still hanging out at the nazi bar, I guess there's no further discussion.
