Greed has always been the word. I don't know where you get the idea that this is new. They have been trying for years to monetize modding.
How quickly so many forgot about the horse armor
Though by modern cosmetic DLC standards, the horse armor was really cheap. $2.50 for a skin is super reasonable.
Paying for skins at all is bullshit
And that sort of thinking is what got us here...I'm no better or worse then you just saying
You have to understand that time moves forward. That was just before my time as a video game player and a lot of the modern audience won't know what you're referencing at all.
A lot of modern audience doesn't know they're being fleeced
This is precisely what they're banking on. Current consumers will be put off but future generations grow up in the enshittified world believing it to be normal. You have to look back in history to see the full trend and most people won't do that.
