Why a kilobyte is 1000 and not 1024 bytes

Kilo = 1000
Byte = Byte
Kilobyte = 1000 bytes
Kibibyte = 1024 bytes
Byte = 8 Bits?
Yes, that is what a byte is.
This is why I only use nibbles. At least it's not spelled funny. But, unfortunately, it sounds like dogfood... Kibinibbles.
