Walt Disneys Mickey Mouse sure is a fun public domain character to use.

I sure hope no one makes any cheap merchandise and cuts into large corporate profits.

No it is in fact Mickey Mouse. The intro slides say "Mickey Mouse in Steamboat Willie"

The Steamboat Willie version of Mickey Mouse is public domain. (Steamboat Willie is the name of the episode the design was featured in.)
