Weird, I remember when I was in elementary school in MN they used 'duck duck goose', this is the first i've heard of the other variation.
I live in MN, it's definitely grey duck here
I grew up in northern MN, I always said duck duck goose as a kid.
South East MN checking in, was definitely duck duck goose
Also slightly different games:
Duck Duck Grey Goose
and
Duck Duck Cold Duck
Which you play paasing a bottle after robbing a liquor store and are shooting it out with the cops.
