As I was making this I remembered that Homer was in Stargate and Stargate was in the Simpsons, it's a match made in the ascended plane.

Me too. The ending is a definitely wanting but from everything I could dig up years ago, it was the best they could do knowing things were about to be shut down. So much potential, with and open invitation to continue/finish it later. They still could, all these years later.
