Here's a list of tons of leftist movies.
You can skip navy seals (It's just a dumb hoorah 'murrica action movie) but Tombstone is a fun flick. It's a western with a very memorable cast and quotes. Val Kilmer steals every scene he's in.
I kinda agree with you about buddy movies. Sometimes it's okay but I really gotta be in the mood outside a few exceptions like Die Hard With a Vengeance.
Lethal Weapon must have been one of the most (if not the most) successful buddy movie of its day. I really liked it. I still do. Maybe I'll watch it this weekend again. So it was a ginormous hit and Hollywood loves formulaic stuff. Every buddy movie tried to shamelessly copy Lethal Weapon vibe. I think it took about 5 years for the entire genre to already start to go stale. I didn't think that way at the time though. In fact - I loved formulaic stuff. I couldn't get enough of it.
Tango & Cash came out in 1989 with Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell. I remember liking it back then. Hell, that was when I was actually spending money to see movies. Now I just torrent everything. A few years ago I rewatched it and I didn't like it at all. I thought it only had two good scenes: the tanker trunk scene in the beginning and the grenade scene near the ending. Time changes you. And 30 years certainly changed me. But I can't believe I ever liked it.
If you're curious about Tango & Cash - just watch those two scenes. There's no need to watch anything else.
I think I've seen Tango and Cash but it's been so long I don't remember either of those scenes. Lethal Weapon 1 and 2 were pretty fun. But yeah the buddy genre sure got oversaturated.
